Course DescriptionSpecial Events
BibleThe goal of the Bible curriculum is to help students demonstrate knowledge of the Old Testament and of various Biblical characters. They will also demonstrate the benefits of making Biblically based choices. Language ArtsThe goal of the language arts curriculum is to help students produce a variety of written communications by applying spelling strategies, structured grammar and mechanics, and legible handwriting. Students will also demonstrate effective communication skills by expressing themselves verbally as well as listening attentively to the oral expression of others. ReadingThe goal of the reading curriculum is to help students become competent and Biblically discerning readers by developing and using reading comprehension strategies,vocabulary, high-level questioning, and group discussion. This curriculum consists of the Scott Foresman basal reader and age appropriate novels. MathThe math curriculum is based on the Saxon Math Program. Students receive daily math instruction and demonstrate the ability to perform basic mathematical functions and problem solving skills in the areas of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of whole numbers, decimals, fractions, percents, ratio, and proportions. ScienceThe goal of the science curriculum is to help students explore and experience God’s creation in life science, earth science, and physical science through knowledge of content area and application of process skills. The fifth grade curriculum is based on the following themes: living and nonliving things, microscopes, human body systems, force and motion, and astronomy. Social StudiesThe goal of the social studies curriculum is to help students demonstrate knowledge of early American History, American government, and United States geography.
