3rd Grade | |
| Welcome to a year where we love learning and learn more about loving. Third graders follow the life of Christ in Bible, transition to cursive, build on grammar and writing skills, and have the opportunity to see the awesomeness of God as Creator in both science and social studies. Fun and educational field trips are spread throughout the year. | |
Course DescriptionBibleThe purpose of teaching Bible is threefold:
In addition, on overall purpose of teaching Bible is to enable students, through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, to know their identity in Christ and to begin to develop an awareness of their own special design and purpose. The focus is on the life of Christ, the book of Acts, and missions. Students are taught principles from the parables and miracles of Jesus. Language ArtsGod gave mankind language to communicate with Him and with one another. God reveals His truth to mankind through language. Since part of God’s plan for our lives is to communicate with one another and with Him, the purpose of the language arts program at PCCS is to develop proficient language arts users who can understand and communicate effectively. In order to train students to become lifelong communicators, our program integrates spelling, grammar, handwriting, and composition throughout disciplines. MathHis orderliness is described in Scripture, so every mathematical procedure must also follow a fixed order of operation. Our math program incorporates the principle of incremental review through exercises of gradually increasing difficulty. The result is that a child’s arithmetic skills become automatic. In addition, are varied opportunities for problem solving to get the best results. ReadingReading is of special importance because of the communication that takes place between God and His people through His Word. Reading is a necessary tool for growth in knowledge and understanding of Him and our responsibilities in life. In addition, reading is designed to produce competent, discerning readers who are compelled to obey Godly principles in everything they read. Science(In the study of science, the student will learn about God, the Creator, and His creation.)Science reveals God’s plan and design for creation in order that we might be better discerning caretakers of His world. With this comes an understanding and appreciation of the creation and a sense of awe of the Creator whose invisible qualities are revealed in nature. Social StudiesThrough the Social Studies curriculum, students will be able to clearly see God’s hand at work throughout history and develop an appreciation and understanding of that Biblical truth. God calls each student to learn to be good citizens at all levels of community in order to demonstrate Christ’s love for others. A fall field trip to Historic Philadelphia enhances an understanding of the founding of our country.
