Course DescriptionACSI PRE-KINDERGARTEN BIBLE CURRICULUMThis level was developed with four-year-olds in mind. It presents familiar Bible stories, especially those focused on the children of the Bible. The story text is provided in an attention getting style which is sure to keep your child on the edge of their seats and wanting to hear more. Everyday stories are provided in the recurring characters of Sally, her family and friends. She often has the same fears, feelings and problems as children at this age. The stories provide opportunities for the children to share in solutions which really work. A missions theme is provided through real life stories from France and South America. Not only will your child enjoy the familiar stories of the Old and New Testaments, they will also learn to apply Bible truths in their daily lives. OPEN COURT PRE-KINDERGARTEN READING CURRICULUMOpen Court Reading Pre-K is a research-based curriculum designed for use with preschoolers. The curriculum is specifically focused on literacy and uses finger plays, rhymes, songs, and poems to promote reading readiness. Open Court Reading Pre-K was designed to teach children to decode and comprehend in an efficient manner so that they can read a variety of quality literature. It provides very systematic approaches to listening, comprehension and assessment, so teachers and parents can track a child’s progress through each unit. BUILDING BLOCKS FOR PRE-KINDERGARTEN MATHSRA Real Math Building Blocks Pre-K is a supplemental mathematics curriculum designed to develop preschool children’s early mathematical knowledge through various individual and small and large group activities. It uses Building Blocks for Math Pre-K software, manipulative’s, and print material. Building Blocks for Math embeds mathematical learning in children’s daily activities, ranging from designated math activities to circle and story time, with the goal of helping children relate their informal math knowledge to more formal mathematical concepts. PRE-KINDERGARTEN SOCIAL STUDIESThe Pre-Kindergarten Social Studies curriculum helps students model the behavior of good citizens. They learn about the concepts of social skills, courtesy, and kindness to solve problems in the classroom. They develop a sense of community by investigating diversity in the classroom. Students learn about the importance of individuals in the community. The Pre-kindergarten curriculum will encompass, Social Studies Skills and Strategies, Geography, Economics, Political Systems, People of the Nations and the World. PRE-KINDERGARTEN SCIENCEThe Pre-Kindergarten Science program will include skills and processes, Earth/Space, Life Science. The Pre-K science program takes the hands on approach to science. Children will participate in experiments and record their findings independently as well as individually. PRE-KINDERGARTEN WRITINGSpeaking, Listening, Reading, and Writing are interwoven processes, and each helps build and strengthen the other. Although most Pre-Kindergarteners are not yet reading or writing, it is important to impress upon them this relationship between spoken and written language. The children are given opportunities to express themselves through scribbling, drawing, and labeling. Concepts such as words and sentences are introduced by having children dictate their thoughts.
